"This vintage engraving depicts the portrait First Lady Abigail Adams (1744 - 1818), wife of the second President of the United States, John Adams, and mother of the 6th US President, John Quincy Adams. Raised in Massachussetts, she was an active supporter of her husband during the American Revolution. Engraved by G. F. Storm after the circa 1800 painting by Gilbert Stuart (1755 - 1828). It was published in an 1877 collection of American portraits and is now in the public domain. Digital restoration by Steven Wynn Photography."
